What does TGD mean in COMPANIES & FIRMS

A TGD stands for Tactile Graphic Designer. These professionals create tactile graphics used by people with visual impairments to learn, study and understand various visual media.

Most Tactile Graphic Designers will need at least some degree of specialization in graphic design and illustration, as well as experience working with tactile surfaces. Some may also have a degree in special education or rehabilitation therapy related to working with blind or visually impaired individuals.

Tactile Graphic Designers work on various types of projects such as books, magazines, maps, diagrams and charts that often involve touch-based activities such as matching textures or other interactive tasks. They must have the ability to turn visually complex information into tangible entities that are easy-to-grasp by those with limited vision.

Many different organizations will hire Tactile Graphic Designers from educational institutes to government institutions who require specialized visuals for the visually impaired community. Private companies also hire them for creating tactile designs for marketing materials like product packaging or advertising campaigns.

Tactile Graphics Designers use specialized software packages and tools to map out how lines, shapes and textures will appear when felt by someone without sight. This is done by creating 3D-printed molds from which braille can be raised using heat applied thermoplastic sheets configured according to interaction needs so that one can feel the material with their fingers rather than looking at it with their eyes.
