The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) are a set of curriculum standards that define what information and skills students are expected to acquire at each grade level in their education. The TEKS include a scope and sequence for teaching academics, physical education, health, technology applications, fine arts, economics, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies/history, career preparation courses such as Agriculture Science & Technology (AS&T), Business & Finance Education (BFE), Early College High School Program (ECHS) plus more than 20 additional CTE program offerings. The TEKS provide teachers with a clear guide for instruction as well as assessment standards that students can use to measure their progress toward mastering specific content areas.
How Does the TEKS System Work?
The TEKS system is divided into various sections based on grade level or subject matter; each section contains foundational knowledge and skills required for mastery of certain concepts or topics of study.
