What does TDO mean in PHYSIOLOGY

The primary symptoms associated with TDO are craniofacial anomalies including underdeveloped or malformed jawbones, facial asymmetry, cleft lip and palate, dental abnormalities such as missing teeth or extra teeth, and skeletal anomalies such as bowed legs. People with TDO also experience delayed growth and development along with hearing loss and respiratory problems.

TDO is caused by a mutation in the FREM 1 gene that normally helps control bone development during early childhood. The mutation often occurs spontaneously without any family history of the disorder.

TDO is usually diagnosed during a physical exam by an experienced physician who looks for certain facial features such as underdeveloped jaws or low cheekbones as well as skeletal abnormalities like bowed legs or extra fingers or toes. Imaging tests may be ordered to further evaluate the patient's symptoms. Genetic testing can confirm a diagnosis of TDO if needed.

Treatment for TDO depends on each individual's specific symptoms and needs; however a multidisciplinary approach typically involving specialists in surgery, orthodontics,and physical therapy can maximize quality of life while minimizing any associated complications from the disorder. In addition to managing physical limitations, treatment may also include speech therapy, occupational therapy, dietary modifications, hearing aids/cochlear implants if needed to reduce hearing loss symptoms

Unfortunately there is no known cure for TDO at this time; however early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can help manage symptoms and allow people withTDO to live relatively normal lives despite their condition.
