What TDK Stands For

TDK stands for “Türk Dil Kurumu” in Turkish, literally meaning “Turkish Language Institution” or “Turkish Language Council”. It is a non-profit language corpus foundation established in 1932 with the goal of unifying and regulating the Turkish language since its establishment.

History

The council was formed soon after Mustafa Kemal Ataturk declared Turkish as an official language in 1928. He wanted to create a central body that could take charge and develop regulations and standards within the domain of written and spoken Turkish. Ataturk appointed linguist Halit Ziya Usakligil as president of TDK's founding committee, who later became the first president when it was finally formed in 1932. The council continues to work towards their original purpose even today, underlining their commitment towards growing and improving clarity and understanding within the Turkish language.

Operation

The main objective behind TDK's foundation was developing rules for grammar usage, spelling conventions, proper spelling of loan words such as English words used in Turkish everyday conversation among other goals related to creating uniformity between spoken & written forms of languages. Today, TDK works on compiling dictionaries which lists out all new words coming into usage along with revisions on old book published by them earlier so that their content remains current & relevant at all times. They also publish public documents related to language such as articles & papers; organize seminars & conferences; and award high achieving people such as writers & authors with various awards recognizing their contribution towards developing literature upon usage of correctly structured & precise language phrases..
