What does TDBP mean in UNCLASSIFIED

TDBP stands for the Tanzanian Domestic Biogas Program. It is a government initiative by the Tanzanian government to reduce environmental and health impacts caused by the traditional use of firewood for cooking in Tanzania.

TDBP provides financial subsidies to low income households in order to promote their adoption of biogas systems, which convert biomass such as animal or human waste into clean burning gas that can be used for activities such as cooking.

Biogas systems offer many benefits when compared with traditional sources of energy such as firewood. They produce less smoke and soot, meaning improved air quality both indoors and out, they generate less energy costs than other sources of energy, they help reduce dependence on firewood, and they can also produce organic fertilizer from the waste produced.

Primarily intended to assist lower-income households make the switch from firewood to biogas alternatives.
