What does TCP mean in ONCOLOGY

Thrombocytopenia is a medical condition in which a person has a low number of platelets.

Platelets are cells produced by the bone marrow that help the blood to clot after an injury.

Anyone can be affected by Thrombocytopenia. It is more common in older adults and those with certain underlying medical conditions or on certain medications.

The symptoms of thrombocytopenia vary depending on the severity, but they may include easy bruising, bleeding from the gums or nose, heavy menstrual bleeding, fatigue, pale skin, and/or tiny red dots on the skin (petechiae).

Treatment for thrombocytopenia depends on the cause and severity of the condition. In some cases it may not require any treatment at all, while in other cases medications or procedures may be necessary to increase platelet levels and prevent complications from bleeding.
