What does TBE mean in NETWORKING

What is TBE?

TBE is a control character found in many data communications protocols and network protocols. It signals the end of the data block being transmitted. A TBE can be found in various systems, including OSI Reference Model layers 3 and 4 (network and transport). It’s particularly important for applications relying on reliable delivery of packets, such as VoIP, streaming video/audio, FTP transfers, etc.

The TBE character appears after all of the payload within a transmission block has been sent. In networking terms, that's known as "framing". The framing ensures that even if part of the packet gets corrupted along its way, only part of it will reach its destination instead of all of it arriving incomplete or garbled. This helps ensure that messages are successfully sent and received without any errors or data corruption.

In addition to preventing data loss due to packet corruption in communication protocols, TBE also helps ensure accurate timing when sending large amounts of data. Since most communications protocols use a precise timing system to guarantee reliable delivery of packets, having an exact indicator for when one packet ends and another begins is extremely important for maintaining accuracy throughout the entire transmission process.
