BCAP Scope & Goals
The Center was established in 2014 with two main objectives: first, to explore how economic thinking can be applied to contemporary policy questions; and second, to build bridges between economics and other social sciences in order to foster new interdisciplinary research projects. Through its various activities, BCEP emphasizes the need for an analytic approach that includes both economic and political considerations when addressing policy issues. To achieve this goal, the Center offers seminars for students on topics such as fiscal policies, public finance models, regulatory analysis, market structure analysis, technology assessment methods, risk assessment strategies, voting behavior studies and game theory applications. In addition to these seminars, BCEP also sponsors policy workshops at UC Berkeley for visitors from government agencies or other institutions as well as fellowships for undergraduates who are interested in pursuing a career in economics or public policymaking.
Conclusions
By creating a space for rigorous academic inquiry into economics and political science while simultaneously providing practical skills training opportunities aimed at making better informed decisions about the world around us; BCEP has become an important part of UC Berkeley's offerings of courses dedicated towards current political discussions. By blurring disciplinary lines through its outreach efforts that seek to connect economists across UC Berkeley's departments with those outside it BCEP continues its mission to bridge gaps between theoretical education rigor with practical applied understanding so that we may better understand the complexities of our changing world.
