What does TASC mean in LAW & LEGAL

TASC stands for Treatment Accountability for Safer Communities. It is an evidence-based program to support those who have been charged with a crime and help them avoid the criminal justice system through substance abuse treatment and services.

TASC works to reduce recidivism rates by providing individuals with the necessary services that could potentially lead to turning their lives around before reoffending. Through counselling, education, job training, mental health care, substance misuse treatment and other personalised supports it can assist in reducing crime within communities.

Individuals who are arrested or convicted of a crime may be eligible for TASC's services such as drug monitoring programs, housing assistance, access to education and job training opportunities, medical and social service referrals, mentoring programs and money management skills. Additionally, family members can take part in the supportive components of the program as well.

While no program can guarantee success all the time, research has shown that people participating in TASC have improved outcomes when it comes to avoiding prison sentences or being able to maintain sobriety when returning back into their communities after release from incarceration.

The availability of funding varies due to federal and state regulations but depending on individual circumstances some funding sources may cover costs associated with receiving treatment via this program.
