What does ABM mean in MEDICAL

The ABM provides leadership and support to healthcare professionals who care for breastfeeding families. They are dedicated to setting standards for clinical practice, providing education, networking opportunities, and advocating for the optimal health of mothers and infants worldwide.

Any healthcare professional involved in the care and promotion of breastfeeding is eligible to join the Academy. This includes physicians from all specialties as well as nurses, lactation consultants, midwives, dieticians/nutritionists, psychologists/psychiatrists/social workers, speech-language pathologists, pharmacists/pharmacies, doulas/lay counselors/peers leaders/community health workers and other healthcare providers supporting breastfeeding.

The Academy offers multiple educational resources such as online learning modules with CME credits available through its e-learning platform; live webinars; conferences; publications; clinical resources; mentorship programs; listservs; newsletters; collaboration resources such as working groups within and outside the ABM membership; advocacy guidelines/press releases on scientific evidence related to breastfeeding policies.

The ABM works with organizations around the world to protect mothers' rights to breastfeed where they work and live. The Academy also advocates for standardizing protections in all 50 U.S. states which include paid family leave time that allows parents time off with pay to provide milk expression breaks or visit their babies in childcare facilities at home or abroad during business trips.. In addition they work with UNICEF USA & global partners on policy efforts aiming to improve outcomes & reduce disparities in maternal & child nutrition globally though multi-sectoral initiatives aimed at improving human milk banks access & infant feeding policies at global level.

There are several ways you can stay informed about issues related to breastfeeding—the Academy hosts various events including webinars on topics such as “Breastfeeding Support in Times of Crisis” which covers responses towards COVID-19 pandemic ​and how best practices may be adapted due to disruption from quarantine practices.. Additionally subscribing their monthly newsletter helps stay updated on all matters related birth & infant feeding—from lactation research updates & practice changes recommendations due to weather disasters or infectious disease outbreaks —all while working together with likeminded individuals pushing forward common goals!
