What does TAMIN mean in NEUROLOGY

The Texas A&M Institute for Neuroscience (TAMIN) is an interdisciplinary research center focusing on the neuroscience of the brain and behavior. TAMIN combines the expertise of scientists from a variety of disciplines, including neuroscience, biology, psychology, biomedical engineering, computer science, mathematics, and chemistry. TAMIN's ultimate goal is to make significant advances in the understanding of key neurological diseases.

TAMIN conducts research across different levels of neuroscience by employing a wide range of experimental and computational approaches. Research topics focus on understanding how the brain functions at its most basic level as well as how it interacts with complex behaviors. This includes projects on neural development and plasticity, learning and memory, sensory processing, advanced analyses technologies used in imaging brain structures and functions, mental health disorders such as depression and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease, and much more.

TAMIN focuses on understanding how the brain works so that individuals who suffer from neurological or behavioral disorders can benefit from its findings through treatments or more accurate diagnoses. By studying the development of these disorders in animal models we can gain insight into how they may manifest themselves in humans through clinical trials. Ultimately we strive to help improve diagnosis accuracy and develop new treatment methods that will help those suffering from neurological or behavioural disorders lead a better quality life.

TAMIN collaborates widely with numerous universities locally as well as nationally. We have collaborated with various institutions such as Baylor College of Medicine, UT Health Science Center San Antonio Texas A&M University (College Station Campus), Sam Houston State University, The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Texas M D Anderson Cancer Center Houston Methodist Hospital System etc., which allows us to share resources both technically and scientifically towards furthering our collective scientific goals into reality.

Yes we offer a variety of educational opportunities to students such as are graduate programs in Neuroscience or Psychology or an Undergraduate Internship Program that aims towards exposing students to neuroscience related careers while providing hands-on experience working under guidance experts in their fields along with mentorship by faculty members allowing them to gain valuable knowledge about neuroscience.
