What is the Stamford Young Artists Philharmonic (SYAP)?

What type of music does SYAP perform?

SYAP performs a variety of classical, pops, and seasonal favorites from different eras. In addition to larger ensemble pieces, soloists from any instrument family are featured during each season.

How does one join SYAP?

Students may audition for placement on one of four levels that best suits their playing level. Auditions are held annually in late May or early June with exceptions made as needed for special circumstances. Interested musicians should contact the director at [email protected] for more information about auditions and our program requirements.

When do rehearsals take place?

Rehearsals are held weekly on Monday nights during the school year (September through May). Depending on the student's level and age group they may rehearse between 5pm-9pm.

Does SYAP offer private lessons?

Yes! Private instruction is available through qualified instructors who also teach within our program. Contact us at [email protected] if you're interested in learning more about private lessons through SYAP.

What types of concerts does SYAP put on?

Each year there are several performances by various ensembles including our full orchestras, chamber groups, brass choir, winds ensemble and jazz combo. All ensembles will usually have a fall concert plus additional concerts throughout the year when possible given current health guidelines due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions..

Does SYAP have any camps or other summer activities?

We offer an online summer academy featuring classes designed to keep musical skills sharp over summer break as well as various mini-camps throughout the summer months that may be offered in person or virtually depending on health guidelines connected to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
