History of the SVL

The Saginaw Valley League was founded in 1971 with eight original members: Arthur Hill, Carrollton, Freeland, Garber, Hemlock, Merrill, Swan Valley and Valley Lutheran High Schools. Since then, two new high schools have been added to bring the total number of member schools to nine. These additions include Ovid-Elsie High School (added in 1983) and Standish-Sterling Central High School (added in 1994). Each school participates annually in interscholastic competition across a variety of team sports offered through the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA).
