The Sacramento Suburban Water District (SSWD) is a special district and public agency formed in 1929 to provide water supply, treatment, storage and distribution services to its customers located in Northern California. The water district serves nearly 1 million customers living in portions of the cities of Rancho Cordova, Citrus Heights, El Dorado Hills and Folsom; plus unincorporated areas of El Dorado County, Sacramento County and Placer County.
The SSWD owns 20 reservoirs with a total capacity of over 390 thousand acre-feet*, plus over 770 miles of pipelines, aqueducts and pipelines that traverse four counties and deliver clean, treated drinking water to homes and businesses throughout its service area. Additionally, they operate wastewater treatment plants for nutrient removal, disinfection and reuse applications. *An acre-foot is a unit of measurement used by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation equal to one surface acre feet or 325 851 gallons (1 287 000 liters).
