What does SRC mean in GHANA

The Students' Representative Council (SRC) is a student-led organisation that works to voice the opinions of students with decision makers in order to improve student life and education on campus. It is made up of an elected board of students who are responsible for representing the student body and campaigning on their behalf when needed.

Any currently enrolled student at an institution can join the SRC as a general member. All members will have the right to vote, contribute ideas, and attend meetings and events.

Becoming an SRC officer requires running for election during the school's election period. Potential officers must submit a written statement explaining who they are and why they think they would be suitable to represent students, which will be posted online for all members to see. Officers then campaign and collect votes from other SRC members before being elected into office.

The SRC is responsible for representing student interests in terms of academic life, welfare needs, campaigns and projects designed to benefit student life, hosting events or activities, providing feedback on regulations or policies implemented by the institution, and generally being there when students need support or advice.

Depending on the institution, resources may include a budget allocated by the university or college for SRC use, access to venues or other facilities managed by the university or college as well as access to advisors from faculty or staff that can help guide decisions taken by the SRC. Additionally, tools such as social media platforms or websites allow the council to communicate messages quickly with larger audiences leading up to campaigns or events.

Generally speaking councils usually meet bi-monthly or monthly depending on its size and how active it is in campaigning. However, when key issues arise which require urgent attention representatives may be called together more frequently.

Campaigns are organised collaboratively between all members of a Student's Representative Council during meetings where ideas are discussed and voted on before implementation. During campaigns members will take various roles including organisers, spokespeople publicists amongst others.

Although holding office as part of an SRC doesn't come with qualifications there are plenty of leadership transferable skills which many employers look favourably upon such as communication, teamwork building abilities and problem solving.
