What does SPT mean in TECHNOLOGY

The Society for Philosophy and Technology (SPT) is an international learned society founded in 1981 dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary research, scholarship, and communication at the intersection of philosophy and technology. SPT facilitates scholarly dialogue among its members who are from a wide variety of academic disciplines.

SPT covers a broad range of topics including artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology, information technology, bioethics, biosemiotic systems, cybernetics & cognition as well as other related fields of study.

Members may come from any academic discipline that has an interest in the topic of philosophy and technology. This includes scholars from computer science, engineering, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, education sciences as well as many more fields.

Yes! SPT hosts several events throughout the year including conferences such as our annual meeting in June or special sessions at other conferences whenever possible. We also host symposia on various topics which usually involve presentations by experts in their field along with time for questions & discussion from audience members.

Yes! We offer many resources to our members such as links to articles & books that explore philosophical issues related to technology, literature reviews on current topics & events within our field of study as well as discounts on venue rental fees when hosting events such as lectures or workshops within their local community.

Yes! Currently we have chapters in Asia Pacific (China), Europe (Germany & Poland) & Latin America (Mexico). We also have a global mailing list which allows us to keep in touch with all our members around the world regardless if they are located near one of our chapter locations or not. There is no requirement to join a local chapter but it can be beneficial due to access to additional resources & networking opportunities it offers.
