What Does SOSD Stand For?

The abbreviation “SOSD” stands for Seven Oaks School Division. It serves as the governing body of the school districts in seven communities - Charleswood, West St Paul, Headingley, East St Paul, Fort Garry-Riverview, St James-Assiniboia and Richmond West - located within Winnipeg and neighboring townships. The division also provides operational direction to four Community Learning Centers located west of Manitoba’s Provincial Capital Region - Farleigh House CLC in La Salle; Highbanks CLC in La Salle; Riverbend CLC in Ste Anne; and Sanford CLC near Carman. Established on June 23rd 1970, this division offers quality academic programs as well as many additional opportunities for students ranging from preschool through secondary level education throughout Winnipeg and its surrounding areas.

SOSD strives to focus on developing students into globally minded citizens with a lifelong interest in both learning and leading. Its vision is ‘Success For Every Student Every Day’ which guides their mission to develop life-long learners who can meet current challenges with innovative solutions as leaders in their community. To accomplish this they focus on fostering positive relationships between staff members, faculty members, parents/guardians and students while also encouraging meaningful involvement by local businesses, health organizations, institutions of higher learning and other stakeholders within the division’s communities. This enables us to provide the best possible learning environments where all resources are equally accessible regardless of age or background - allowing each student an opportunity at success while inspiring future generations of leaders.
