What does SOH mean in HEALTHCARE

Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) is a field of expertise focused on the promotion of health and safety in the workplace. It covers a wide range of topics, including emergency preparedness and response, hazard recognition and control, occupational health services, environmental protection and more.

SOH professionals work to create safe working environments for all employees by identifying hazards in the workplace through regular assessments, providing training to personnel, implementing corrective actions when necessary, as well as other methods.

SOH professionals ensure employee safety by conducting risk assessments which identify potential risks to workers' health or safety; ensuring that equipment used in the workplace is properly maintained; implementing protective measures such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); developing procedures for responding to emergencies; providing education programs related to workplace hazards and other topics; enforcing relevant laws/policies; and much more.

Common workplace hazards include biological hazards such as viruses or bacteria which may spread disease; chemical hazards such as hazardous materials or gases found in certain workplaces; physical hazards such as slips/trips/falls or strains/sprains from lifting heavy objects; ergonomic concerns related to poor posture or repetitive motions; fire risks due to insufficient fire prevention planning or outdated equipment; noise levels which may be detrimental to hearing; radiation exposure from high-energy radiation sources, etc.
