What does SMTE mean in PERFORMING ARTS

SMTE stands for Summer Musical Theatre Experience. It is a two-week intensive program that provides high school students with an opportunity to hone their acting, singing, and dancing skills under the guidance of professionals in the musical theater industry.

The SMTE is organized and run by a team of experienced teachers from the theater industry who have all been trained in the disciplines of musical theater. They bring with them an extensive knowledge of both classical and contemporary musicals, as well as a passion for the art form.

During SMTE, students will have access to workshops on topics such as improvisation, auditioning techniques, character development, vocal technique, dance styles and more. They will also participate in rehearsals for a culminating showcase performance at the end of the program.

The Summer Musical Theatre Experience takes place each year during June or July depending on availability.

The program is typically held at various theatres across different cities in Canada and USA. Exact locations are usually announced closer to program start date so interested participants can make arrangements accordingly.

Different programs come with different costs associated with them. Generally speaking though, tuition fees range between $500-$1,000 depending on certain factors such as duration/length of the course and related expenses like accommodation etc.

Students between 14-18 years of age are eligible to apply for this program based upon their theatrical experience/background and also how they perform at audition/interview stage if applicable. Basic criteria like attendance record/grades etc may also be taken into consideration in some cases.
