What does SIWI mean in INSTITUTES

The mission of SIWI is to secure sustainable freshwater resources by catalyzing policy reform and supporting capacity building. Their work focuses on two key areas — improving access to water for all, and developing adaptive and resilient water systems that are fit for a changing world.

The Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) is based in Stockholm, Sweden but operates globally through offices and partners around the world.

SIWI offers a range of services in order to meet the needs of its partners, clients and stakeholders which include policy advice, capacity building, research support, conference organizing and hosting events such as workshops.

SIWI engages in research across many sectors linked to water topics such as climate change adaptation, hydropower development, groundwater management and management of rural livelihoods among many other areas. Furthermore our expertise covers a wide geographic scope from local initiatives in small scale watersheds up to global level agreements addressing transboundary river basins.

Yes! Each year we hold the World Water Week which brings together over 3000 scientists, decision makers and practitioners from around the world working on solutions related to global water issues. We also often host regional meetings focused on specific topics brought up by members throughout our network.

We have partnerships with a variety of organizations both public and private including governments, businesses, international institutions, civil society organizations as well as academia. We are always open to exploring new collaborations related to advancing sustainable freshwater use.
