SID stands for Sports Information Director.

A Sports Information Director is responsible for overseeing the publicity and media relations operations at an athletics organization or school in order to promote the team or school's athletes and activities. They also provide factual information pertaining to teams/athletes, coordinate interviews with coaches and players, research opponents for game days, create media kits and maintain school's records.

A Sports Information Director typically works closely with other departments such as marketing, ticket sales, corporate sponsorships and broadcasting on promotions or campaigns in order to benefit those areas. They may also be involved in event planning and social media outreach.

In most cases, candidates need at least a bachelor's degree in communication, journalism or public relations; however some organizations may prefer advanced degrees such as master's degree or PhD in these fields. Aside from having the right qualifications they should have excellent writing skills; knowledge of professional sports; experience in journalism; organizational skills; interpersonal skills; customer service aptitude; time management skills; problem-solving capabilities; proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and working knowledge of graphics software like Adobe Photoshop etc.

Opportunities exist at both college/university sport programs as well as professional sport teams like Major League Baseball (MLB), National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA) etc., which all seek out qualified individuals for this position.
