The FAA defines a Block Aircraft Registration Request as “a request submitted by an aircraft owner or operator to withhold specified information related to their aircraft from public disclosure (including Owner/Operator data).†In order for the FAA to process and approve a BARR request, specific criteria must be met and multiple documents must be completed and submitted. For example, the owner or operator of an aircraft must provide evidence that meets the FAA's criteria for withholding information such as airframe make and model numbers, N-numbers (tail numbers), type certificates issued under 14 CFR Part 21 and Mode S Code assigned by the FAA's Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City. The applicant may also have to provide additional documentation demonstrating why they are seeking privacy protection for their aircraft. Once all requirements have been met, the FAA will submit a BARR form on behalf of the owner or operator that will prevent certain pieces of registration information from being released into public records.
