What does ABFZ mean in GEOLOGY

The Angola Benguela Frontal Zone (ABFZ) is an area of ocean along the coastline of Angola and Namibia where large-scale mixing between colder, nutrient-rich waters from the Antarctic converge with warmer, nutrient-poor waters from the rest of the subtropical South Atlantic ocean. This creates a vast phytoplankton bloom that supports a wide variety of marine life, including large numbers of commercially important fish species.

The ABFZ's large scale phytoplankton bloom provides an abundant food source for many marine species.
