What does SDA mean in DISABILITY

SDA is a type of housing specifically designed and built for people with disability. It meets the needs of people with relatable extra care, including high physical support needs. SDA can be provided as part of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Unlike standard housing, SDA dwellings have been designed to cater for people with significant disability so that they can live as independently as possible. The features of an SDA dwelling are more likely to include tactile signage, voice activated switches, wider doorways and accessible showers.

To be eligible for specialised disability accommodation, you must be an NDIS participant and require specialised housing to meet your needs and maintain your independence. You must also have received an ‘SDA’ approved rating from the NDIS.

Generally, there are five different types of disabled accommodation available through the SDA program – boarding house type accommodation, shared living spaces, group homes, self-contained apartments and self-managed homes.
