What does SCAS mean in POLICE

The Serious Crime Analysis Section (SCAS) is an investigative component of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). SCAS is responsible for conducting sophisticated analysis of crime data and intelligence to identify investigative leads, target criminal networks, and support agents in the field.

SCAS focuses on identifying connections between individuals or groups involved in serious criminal activity such as organized crime, terrorism, human trafficking, narcotics trafficking, financial fraud, public corruption and cybercrime.

SCAS uses advanced analytical techniques to review large amounts of data from multiple sources both internally and externally to uncover patterns and connections that indicate possible criminal activities or networks related to ongoing investigations. This includes examination of telephone records, banking transactions, social media interactions and other digital evidence as well as traditional sources such as interviews and physical evidence.

Analysts use a variety of tools including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer-aided criminal investigation systems (CACI), Social Network Analysis software (SNA) as well as proprietary methods developed internally by the FBI to analyze massive amounts of data quickly while preserving privacy rights.
