What does SARP mean in METEOROLOGY

SARP stands for Sectoral Applications Research Program. It is a research initiative established by the United Nations to promote the development and use of advanced technologies to address critical global challenges.

SARP's objectives are to develop novel and innovative solutions that apply scientific knowledge, technological expertise and socioeconomic ability to help eradicate poverty, create sustainable development and establish new models for global engagement.

By applying advanced technologies, as well as scientific knowledge and technical expertise combined with socio-economic resources, SARP can help in solving global challenges such as poverty reduction, sustainable growth, equality, access to resources and increased health outcomes.

Examples of projects funded by the program include agricultural research aimed at enhancing food security; renewable energy projects looking at increasing access to electricity; water resource management initiatives; telecommunications infrastructure expansion projects; educational digital tools; disaster risk assessment programs; healthcare information systems; transportation systems optimization models; biodiversity conservation efforts; climate adaptation strategies; conservation agriculture techniques research.

SARP is funded through contributions from member states of the United Nations as well as other international organizations such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) etc. Additionally, private sector partners such as technology companies can provide financial or in-kind contributions.
