History

Sultan Abu Bakar School was founded by Sultan Abu Bakar of Johor in 1906 as an English Middle School, with a focus on equipping students with a sound stepping stone to progress further into higher studies or employments. In the 1920s, SABS established a wider range of curricula including Science, Mathematics and Malay Language Arts. During World War II, it changed its name several times but continued providing pre-tertiary classes up until 1955 when the government adopted a 3-3-4 system of education which saw some subjects adjusted or eliminated from the syllabus due to budget constraints. In 1976, SABS returned to its former name after being approved by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar and became an independent government school.

Curriculum

Sultan Abu Bakar School offers multiple streams ranging from Physical Education, Computer Science and Foreign Languages (Chinese & Tamil) to Humanities & Social Sciences. Additionally, there is also Islamic Studies for Muslim students and Moral Education for non-Muslim students according to state regulations. Moreover, under National Educator's Transformation Plan (ETP), SABS proudly initiated bilingual programs in 2007 where all lessons are conducted in both English and Bahasa Malaysia depending on school needs or student's preference. It is no wonder that many parents would prefer their children receiving their education from this prestigious establishment since it provides them with greater academic navigability and ample opportunities to excel in various fields.
