History
Sultan Abu Bakar School was founded by Sultan Abu Bakar of Johor in 1906 as an English Middle School, with a focus on equipping students with a sound stepping stone to progress further into higher studies or employments. In the 1920s, SABS established a wider range of curricula including Science, Mathematics and Malay Language Arts. During World War II, it changed its name several times but continued providing pre-tertiary classes up until 1955 when the government adopted a 3-3-4 system of education which saw some subjects adjusted or eliminated from the syllabus due to budget constraints. In 1976, SABS returned to its former name after being approved by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar and became an independent government school.
