What does ABEL mean in UNCLASSIFIED

ABLE stands for Action Based Experiential Learning. It is an educational model designed to promote active student engagement with their learning experience through exploration, experimentation, and reflection.

Traditional learning models focus more on rote memorization of facts and figures whereas ABLE focuses on active student experiences that lead to a deeper understanding of concepts by exploring and experimenting with the material being presented. Unlike traditional methods which typically only provide access to information, ABLE also actively engages students in putting this knowledge into action.

Examples include hands-on activities such as making a scientific experiment or building a small prototype product; field trips such as visiting a local business or museum; group activities involving problem solving or debate; online research projects; role play scenarios; outdoor activities such as camping or hiking; simulations; and art projects.

The use of ABLE has been linked to better retention rates by helping students understand material through hands-on experiments rather than simply memorizing facts and figures. In addition, it provides motivation for students while encouraging creative thinking, problem solving abilities, self-reliance and collaboration between classmates. Finally it helps them develop important skills such as adaptability when approaching new situations while boosting confidence in their abilities.

Depending on the types of activities being used with the ABLE model, additional resources may be necessary but not always required. Activities such as field trips may need extra funding but many can be adapted to minimize costs if needed. Furthermore there are plenty of free online resources available depending on the subject matter being taught which can be easily integrated into lesson plans without incurring extra costs.
