What does RPS mean in SPORTS

Rock, Paper, Scissors (RPS) is a hand game typically played between two people. The object of the game is to select a symbol that defeats the opponent’s symbol. The symbols have individual traits that interact with each other uniquely; rock breaks scissors, scissors cuts paper and paper covers rock.

Rock, Paper, Scissors can be played in at least two ways - with each player using a single hand or both hands. To start the game both players must choose one of the three symbols by extending either their closed fist (rock), open palm (paper) or flat extended fingers and thumb (scissor). The players then count one-two-three simultaneously before displaying their chosen hand symbol. If the player’s symbols are the same then a draw is declared and another round replayed until one of the players wins

There are multiple versions of RPS being played around the world although they usually still abide by its core principles. Some examples include Janken (Japanese version) which uses rock instead of fist for rock and includes an extra move called 'Pon' which beats scissors but loses to rock; Email Game where instead of revealing your move at once both opponents send each other emails revealing their move only when both moves have been revealed; Deathmatch whereby if both players show the same move then no point is awarded and they repeat that round until one person wins.

Although there may not be an absolute optimal strategy for playing RPS researchers report that many strategies depend on what one's opponent may do as well as what has been done in past rounds. Thus some strategies include predicting what your opponent will do or keeping track of how they have previously played and playing accordingly.
