Ramagundam was founded by King Bheemaraju I in 1140 AD as an administrative center to manage his holdings which included nizamas of Hyderabad and Golconda. During British rule, this region developed as a railway station around 1874 with 3 lines - Mettuguda-Vikarabad-Mirzapali, Guntakal-Gooty and Bellampalli opened in 1878 connecting Hyderabad and Chennai.
