What does RMCP mean in REGIONAL

The purpose of the RMCP is to protect and conserve marine biodiversity across multiple regions through establishing and managing Marine Protected Areas.

The RMCP is overseen by a coalition of international organizations, governmental bodies, NGOs, private-sector stakeholders, academics, coastal users, and local communities.

The RMCP helps conserve marine life by helping to empower sustainable development by managing human activities within MPAs in order to prevent overexploitation. Additionally, as part of their conservation efforts, they are also working to reduce plastic pollution in our oceans.

Activities within a MPA depend on its individual management objectives; however, activities may include research projects related to a particular species or habitat type, educational outreach initiatives for coastal students or fishermen/women, stakeholder meetings for co-management initiatives related to fisheries management plans or resource monitoring protocols.

There are many ways you can get involved with the RMCP depending upon your professional background or interests. Alternatively you could also donate money directly towards funding efforts for establishing new MPAs or other local conservation operations.
