What does RDT mean in MILITARY

Rapid Decompression Tests (RDTs) are tests used to evaluate the integrity of objects or materials when exposed to sudden changes in pressure. These tests allow us to identify objects which may not be able to withstand unexpected fluctuations in pressure without becoming compromised.

RDTs are primarily used for assessing the safety and efficiency of pressurized objects before, during, and after use. They can also be employed for additional research purposes such as studying failure modes or verifying product design tolerances.

An RDT can provide information regarding how a particular object handles sudden changes in pressure, how much pressure the object can tolerate before failing, how it behaves when it fails, as well as any other parameters that were specified by designers prior to testing.

A wide variety of materials such as metals and plastics, glass fiber composites and fabrics, elastomers and rubbers, foam or honeycomb structures, ceramic components, coatings etc., can all be tested with an RDT.
