History

Richard Childress Racing began in 1972 with a single car team owned by Richard Childress and driven by his friend Walter Ballard. By 1976, they had expanded to two teams competing in all three major NASCAR series—the Winston (now Monster Energy) Cup Series, Busch Grand National (now Xfinity) Series, and NASCAR GNC LiveWire (now K&N Pro) Series.. Only five years later, at the 1981 Daytona 500, driver Dale Earnhardt Sr. shocked the world by winning the race—the first of six championships that he would win for RCR during his legendary career. After Earnhardt’s retirement in 2001, RCR continued to remain competitive with other drivers such as Jeff Burton and Kevin Harvick, who won back-to-back championships for RCR in 2003 and 2004. More recently in 2015 Kevin Harvick won another championship for RCR alongside crew chief Rodney Childers at Texas Motor Speedway; making three championship wins for the organization within twelve years.
