What does RCO mean in MUSIC

The RCO primarily performs at its home venue, the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Additionally, the orchestra performs across Europe and around the world at other prestigious venues such as London's Barbican Centre and Carnegie Hall in New York City.

The exceptional level of musicianship of each member of the RCO combined with their unique style have earned them worldwide recognition and acclaim. The combination of boldness and innovation in their approach while still maintaining strict adherence to tradition allows them to interpret works accurately and expressively.

As Chief Conductor since 2016, Daniele Gatti leads the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in their concerts both at home and abroad. He is supported by Principal Guest Conductor Lahav Shani who has been part of RCO since 2018.

In addition to its flagship orchestra, which consists of over 100 members, there are three additional ensembles within RCO – Concertgebouworkest (the Chamber Orchestra), Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht (a period instrument ensemble) and National Youth Choir of Netherlands (the youth choir). Each group brings an additional perspective to classical music performance creating even more diverse repertoire interpretations for audiences to experience!

Absolutely! Next season features two large symphony cycles - Brahms’s Symphonies cycle lead by Chief Conductor Daniele Gatti; and Beethoven’s symphonies directed by Principal Guest Conductor Lahav Shani - alongside a series of chamber recitals presented throughout Europe over 3 seasons starting June 2021 until January 2023; Also planned are four projects under current Musical Director Andris Nelsons which will take place during 2022/23 season - presenting repertoire ranging from Holst's The Planets Suite up until contemporary composers like Andrzej Panufnik’s String Quartets No1 & No2; ensuring there's plenty for classical music fans eagerly awaiting next season!
