About RCL
Racing Club de Lens, commonly referred to as RCL or just Racing, was founded in 1906 by miners of the Northern France coal-mining region. The club was initially created as a way to provide recreation for the miners of the region and quickly became part of the French Amateur Football Federation shortly after its formation. In 1933, following their first promotion to Division 1, they went on to become one of the most successful clubs in France winning four Ligue 1 titles - 1932–33, 1943–44, 1945–46 and 1947–48 - as well as five Coupe de France tournaments between 1947 and 1951. However their success was short-lived with relegation from Division 1 in 1971 followed by bankruptcy in 1975 forcing them to start over again from scratch and rebuild what had once been a legendary club.
