What does RAID mean in DIVING

RAID stands for the Rebreather Association of International Divers. It is an organization dedicated to advancing knowledge and education in the area of rebreather diving around the world.

To become a member of RAID, you must first have some prior experience with technical, cave or deep diving, before completing a RAID course that consists of four modules; Theory, Confined Water Training, Open Water Training and Troubleshooting & Unit Care. Once certified, you will have access to all the benefits that come with being a member of RAID.

As part of its mission to advance safety and education within the sport, RAID offers courses and certifications for recreational divers working their way up to more advanced forms of rebreather diving. Additionally, members can take advantage of multiple webinars, discussion forums, news outlets, magazines and other helpful resources pertaining to rebreather diving safety and technique.

All RAID instructors are experienced professionals with vast amounts of experience in both recreational and technical/cave/deep diving disciplines as well as extensive knowledge in multiple closed-circuit rebreathers configurations. They come from various backgrounds including Commercial Dive Masters & Instructors; Technical Instructors; Cave Instructors; Expedition Leaders; Explorers; Hypoxic Gas Blenders etc., creating an holistic approach to training aspiring divers looking to get involved in Rebreather Diving.

During courses at Raid course attendees use either JJ CCR Sport or Poseidon MKVI Inspiration EVO Closed Circuit Rebreathers (CCRs), along with essential dive gear such as fins, mask and wetsuit so that they can get familiarized with operating them safely whilst exploring underwater environments. Students also receive educational materials such as user manuals for different equipment types plus audiovisual material regarding every gadget utilized during training sessions in order to stay up-to-date regarding any technological advancements on CCRs.
