What does RADAR mean in DRUGS

RADAR stands for Responding Appropriately to Drug and Alcohol Referrals. It is an educational program designed to help people understand how to effectively and appropriately support those who are being referred for addiction services.

Anyone who works in a frontline capacity with those experiencing substance use issues or has concerns about drug or alcohol misuse can benefit from participating in this program. This includes healthcare providers, educators, family members, first responders, social workers, counselors, youth workers, and more.

The program provides education on recognizing signs of addiction, understanding risks associated with substance use disorder (SUD), connecting people with resources in their community, developing action plans for responding to referrals for treatment services, creating safe environments and supportive relationships that promote recovery-oriented care pathways.

The program provides information on a variety of topics including harm reduction strategies, mental health first aid skills, the importance of confidentiality regulations surrounding SUDs (Substance Use Disorders), relapse prevention tactics and sociocultural considerations related to addiction.
