What does QDAC mean in DRUGS

The Queensland Drug and Alcohol Court (QDAC) is a court system established in 2017 which provides support and treatment services as an alternative to incarceration for non-violent offenders with a substance abuse disorder.

In order to be accepted into the QDAC, individuals must have been charged with non-violent offenses which were fueled by an underlying drug or alcohol addiction. It also requires they live within 150 kilometers of Brisbane, have a stable residence address, have no outstanding warrant issues or charges, not be subject to any other court supervision order, and cannot have committed any crime against persons causing harm.

The duration of the QDAC program depends on each individual's situation but typically lasts between 18 months up to three years. This may include intensive rehabilitation programs including individual counseling sessions, group counseling sessions, psychosocial education classes as well as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous meetings.

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive an official certificate from the court testifying their completion and acknowledging their efforts in addressing their substance abuse issues. Participants may then apply for expungement (erasure) of criminal records associated with offences committed during times of active addiction or development of dependance on drugs or alcohol.
