Airway

The first step of ABCD is airway, which means assessing whether your patient can breathe on their own or not. To make this assessment, take a look at the rate and depth of their breathing as well as any changes in color or respiration sound. If the patient is unable to breathe properly on their own, then use whatever means necessary to clear the blocked airway and ensure that they can receive oxygen again.

Breathing

Once you have ensured that oxygen is reaching the patient's body, then you need to assess how effective they are at breathing on their own by monitoring their breathing rate and depth as well as any changes in color or respiration sound. If any abnormality is observed, then further steps should be taken to correct this issue such as providing additional oxygen or using a bag-valve mask device to help them with their respiration.

Circulation

The third step of ABCD is circulation, which involves assessing the heartbeat of your patient by taking pulses from various parts of the body such as wrists or neck area. You should also check for any pooling of blood which could indicate internal bleeding or lack of circulation within certain areas. If there are signs like these present then you will need to provide some form of external circulation support with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or other methods if necessary.

Defibrillation

The final step in ABCD is defibrillation, which requires specialized equipment such as a defibrillator in order to be performed correctly. A defibrillator works by delivering electrical shocks directly onto the heart muscle in order to restore regular heart rhythms during cardiac arrest situations. This process needs to be done very carefully and accurately since too much current can lead to serious injuries while too little can result in ineffective treatment outcomes so only trained professionals should attempt this action.
