What is PUK?
PUK stands for Personal Identification Number (PIN) Unlocking Key and its primary purpose is to verify that the user accessing a mobile device is authorized to do so. PIN codes protect mobile phones from unauthorized use by requiring that all users enter a specific number before they are able to access the phone's functions. If the wrong PIN code is entered multiple times in succession, the phone will enter what's known as "lockdown" mode, rendering it useless until it's unlocked with the correct PUK code. How does PUK work?: When a user enters an incorrect PIN code more than three times in succession, their device automatically locks itself and requires the correct PUK code in order to be accessed again. This prevents unauthorized individuals from using someone else’s phone without knowing their private codes. The owner of the locked device must then contact their network provider or manufacturer to obtain their personal unlocking key. Once the right PUK has been entered, users will then have access to their devices once more and can set up new PINs if needed. Conclusion: In summary, Personal Identification Number (PIN) Unlocking Key (PUK) is an eight-digit numerical code used for gaining back access to your mobile phone after it has been locked due to too many failed attempts at entering a PIN code. If you find yourself needing a PUK, contact your manufacturer or network provider immediately so you can regain access to your device quickly and easily.
