What does PSN mean in TELECOM

More and more people are taking part in the online world these days. From buying goods and services to interacting with people from different parts of the globe, there is a lot that we can do. To make these tasks easier, network technologies have been developed which allow us to communicate with each other over the internet or any other form of communication medium. One such technology is Packet Switched Network (PSN). In this article, we will discuss what PSN means and how it works.

What Is Packet Switched Network (PSN)?

Packet Switched Network (PSN) is a type of computer networking system which enables data transfer between computers or devices via packets (also known as datagrams). This system is primarily used by mobile networks for wireless data transmission, however it can also be used in wired networks such as Ethernet or Token Ring as well. In PSN, data packets are routed through switches and routers which determine the best route for sending a packet to its destination. This eliminates the need for dedicated links between two nodes on the network and thus reduces bandwidth consumption and improves overall transmission speeds.

How Does It Work?

In PSN, data is divided into small packets before being transmitted over the network. Each packet contains two essential pieces of information – header and payload. The header includes details about the originator of the packet and its destination while the payload consists of actual data being transmitted between devices or computers on a network. When one node sends out data packets, they are received by all nodes that are connected to it on their respective ports. However, only those packets that contain destination header matching those in receiving nodes’ ports are accepted for further processing while rest are discarded due to mismatch in source address details provided in header section of those particular packets.

Once accepted, incoming packets go through a routing algorithm on each switch or router so that they end up at right destination node specified in their headers. This process eliminates congestion on shared links which occur when multiple nodes send out large amounts of traffic across them resulting into delays in transmissions due to high collision rates among incoming frames from different sources having similar destination addresses but no conflict resolution mechanism at sender’s side like Ethernet protocol does using CSMA/CD technique (Carrier Sense Multiple Access Collision Detection).

Advantages Of PSN

1) Cost-Efficient: As no dedicated link needs to be maintained for two communicating entities on a network, costs associated with setting up physical connections between machines can be avoided thereby making the overall expense low compared to traditional methods where separate connections had to be established for every pair of communicating nodes.

2) Adaptability: Packet switching system allows user applications to adapt itself according to changes made in underlying network protocols such as TCP/IP without requiring any code changes at application layer level thereby making it easier for users to migrate from one network type(wired/wireless)to another without affecting their applications functioning negatively due their unawareness about underlying protocols running beneath them being changed dynamically during migration process.

3) Scalability: The ability of packet switched networks allow them scale easily allowing them support new applications or services quickly since no hardware upgrade needs done when deploying a new service onto existing infrastructure saving time, money as well energy resources simultaneously.
