What does PPRC mean in POLICE

Portland Police Recce Command (PPRC) is a specialized unit of the Portland Police Department that is focused on providing tactical resources and logistical support when responding to major crimes or critical events. PPRC also works with other public safety agencies throughout the state in order to provide coordinated response activities.

To be considered for membership at PPRC, applicants must meet rigorous physical requirements, have successfully completed police academy training, possess strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrate an aptitude for high-pressure situations. Additionally, applicants must be able to demonstrate proficiency in advanced firearm and defensive tactics techniques.

All members of PPRC receive comprehensive training in advanced weapons systems and tactics. This includes firearms training, small unit tactics, operations planning, close quarter combat techniques, use of ballistic shields, riot control techniques and crowd management methods. Additionally, all members attend specialized courses in Emergency Medical Response (EMR), Crisis Negotiations (CN), Tactical Communication (TCOM) and Evidence Collection Procedures (ECP).

During critical events such as terrorist attacks or active shooter incidents, PPRC provides tactical resources and specialized equipment to assist law enforcement officers on-scene. Additionally, the team provides a launch platform for drones used for situational awareness and target acquisition purposes. When needed the team can also coordinate off-site resources such as armored vehicles and SWAT teams from other states or organizations if they are requested by local law enforcement agencies.
