What does PFP mean in FOUNDATIONS

PFP stands for the Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP). It is an entry-level tertiary course designed to prepare students for university applications in Singapore.

PFP offers students a direct pathway into a local polytechnic or overseas university, providing them with academic guidance and support on their transition from secondary school to higher education. Additionally, it facilitates their entry into universities based on merit and ability, rather than solely based on grades achieved.

Students aged 16 and above who have completed secondary school may apply for PFP. Those who are ineligible for enrolment into junior colleges or polytechnics through normal admissions have priority selection in this programme.

The PFP curriculum includes modules in areas such as Maths, Sciences, Computing, Humanities and Social Sciences that are necessary preparatory studies to attain degree level qualifications at universities. Acourse structure which comprises module exams and supervised study helps enable students progress into diploma level programmes after one year of study.

Generally, it takes one year of full-time study at any of the major Institutes of Higher Learning in Singapore including Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic.
