Functions of PFA

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has been given the responsibility to ensure the safety of food consumed in Punjab. To achieve this goal, it regulates both imported and locally produced food items and undertakes regular inspections of all production outlets including but not limited to factories, manufacturing units, warehouses and retail stores. Additionally, the PFA is also responsible for monitoring local product quality standards as well as educating consumers about nutrition-based eating practices. The goal of these practices is twofold; firstly to safeguard consumer health from any potential risks resulting from consumption of poor quality items; secondly to promote balanced diets through nutritional advice on various food products available in the marketplace.

License Enforcement

The license policies enforced by PFA involve issuing licenses to businesses or individuals who seek permission before manufacturing or processing any type of food item. These licenses are issued under several categories including slaughterhouse licenses, cold storage and ice-making units’ licenses as well as permits required for trading in animal feed or fertilizers. Additionally, a ‘Food Processing & Handling Certificate’ is also necessary for those engaged in handling meat products such as canned meat or processed fish fillets etcetera. Once licensed under these categories there exists a strict policy wherein owners must abide by set hygienic regulations while going through with their business operations.

Monitoring Inspections & Complaints Resolutions

As part of its role within maintaining public health standards amongst consuming citizens the PFA regularly carries out monitoring inspections at restaurants, cafes & bakeries across provincial boundaries while simultaneously taking action against complaints received from customers regarding adulteration or contamination involving any kind of edible item made available to them either through physical or online mediums (e-commerce websites). The outcome of such inspections may include warnings being issued with instructions on how to resolve any ongoing issue within a certain timeframe otherwise risk more severe punitive measures being taken against violators which may include hefty fines or extended jail terms if situation calls for a criminal case lodgment instead depending upon circumstances concerning particular incident/complaint being reported/resolved then creating proper evidence which can be presented before court related personnel whenever necessary
