What does PCRM mean in MEDICAL

The Physicians Committee of Responsible Medicine (PCRM) is a nonprofit organization that advocates for preventive medicine, conduct research, and promote higher standards of ethics in research. PCRM works to create a healthier world through plant-based diets, ethical and effective biomedical research, and higher standards in medical education.

The primary goals of PCRM are to promote preventive medicine and compassionate care based on sound science, encourage higher standards for ethical integrity in research, advocate for more healthful food choices, reduce animal experimentation in research, and advance medical education.

PCRM works to promote its mission locally and globally by engaging with public policymakers, organizing medical professionals to speak out against animal testing and encouraging dietary changes which promote health and well-being. Additionally PCRM conducts community outreach programs to inform people about healthy eating habits and lifestyle changes.

Yes! PCRM partners with other organizations in order to further the reach of preventative medicine and oppose harmful practices such as animal testing. These partnerships provide support for preventive healthcare initiatives as well as greater access to resources needed to make positive change.

While plant-based nutrition is at the core of many of our physician-developed programs, we do not consider ourselves a “vegan” organization. We provide education about whole food plant-based options as part of a comprehensive approach that goes beyond diet alone; it includes lifestyle interventions such as physical activity. Furthermore our members may have different approaches to their own nutrition including ovo-lacto vegetarianism or even animal products in moderation within a whole food plant-based diet context.

Yes! PCRM offers online CME courses that have been approved by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). Physicians can earn up to four hours of credit each year by viewing our online courses covering topics such as cholesterol management using evidence-based medicine best practices or minimizing risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease through lifestyle changes rather than medication.

Yes! We conduct research projects from time to time on topics related to our mission including alternative models for costly animal experiments or efficacy studies on lead poisoning prevention among children living near hazardous waste sites. Our studies are designed utilizing protocols developed by practicing physicians who adhere closely to evidence-based guidelines while challenging longstanding beliefs when necessary.
