History
The Adama Science & Technology University (ASTU) has a long history in Ethiopia's higher educational landscape. Since its founding as Adama College of Agriculture (ACA) in October 1973 by the students’ initiative with the support of its faculty members and local people; it has come a long way since then. The ACA was initially run by volunteers from other colleges affiliated with Addis Ababa University for two years until 1975 when it became an independent college affiliated with Jimma University under the name of Adama College of Agriculture & Veterinary Medicine (ACAVM). In 2003 ACAVM underwent major restructuring to become what is known today as ASTU.
Academic Programs
At present ASTU offers 67 bachelor's degree-level curricula within 17 regular departments namely Natural Sciences; Engineering; Veterinary Medicine; Environmental Sciences; Business & Economics; Social Sciences & Languages; Law; Computer Science & Information Technology; Humanity Studies & Education Programs both on daytime and evening/ weekend basis. In addition, it offers 6 master's degrees (MSc) courses within 4 regular departments including Natural Sciences; Engineering; Environment Science & Veterinary Medicine while 13 diploma programs are offered on day time & evening/weekend basis within 3 specialized academic units including Agricultural Extension Services Training Center (AESTC); Institute for Community Development Studies(ICDS); Research Center for Climate Change Adaptation Techniques & Technologies(C4ATT).

ASTU is accredited by the Ethiopian Ministry of Education using the Quality Assurance conventions stated in their Higher Education Proclamation No 621/2009 with regards to accreditation standards adopted by middle level institutions like universities or technical schools providing STEM based disciplines such as engineering or technology related training whether physical or virtual formats exist.
