What does ASPP mean in UNCLASSIFIED

To be eligible for Additional Statutory Paternity Pay, you must meet certain criteria, including being an employee and the father or partner of the pregnant woman or the mother's partner. You must also have had continuous employment with your employer for at least 26 weeks by the end of the 15th week before the expected week of childbirth, and give your employer 28 days' notice that you intend to take paternity leave.

The amount you will be paid during your paternity leave will depend on your salary and how long you choose to take paternity leave. If you are eligible, your statutory pay can be up to £148.68 per week (in 2021/22) or 90% of your average weekly earnings, whichever is lower.

You are normally entitled to 1 or 2 weeks' Additional Statutory Paternity Leave but in some cases this may be extended up to a maximum of 26 weeks if both parents work and decide to share maternity leave and pay, or if one parent works and takes shared parental leave (SPL).

You can start your additional statutory paternity leave any time from 20 weeks after the expected week of childbirth until 12 months afterwards. Your employer may allow you more than 1 or 2 weeks, but they don't have to so make sure you check with them first.

In order to qualify for ASPP, you should provide your employer with a completed form within 28 days of giving them notification that you will be taking paternity leave. This form should include all necessary documents such as proof of identification, proof of relationship with / responsibility for a child (e.g., birth certificate), and proof that you took the necessary steps to obtain consent from your partner's employer if they are due receiving Maternity Allowance instead (MA1).
