What does OLCC mean in STATE & LOCAL

The OLCC's mission is to promote social responsibility through education and enforcement activities related to alcohol service in Oregon. They are responsible for regulating the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages including issuing licenses to retailers, wholesalers, distributors, restaurants and caterers. They also monitor alcohol-related education programs and provide educational materials.

The first step towards obtaining a liquor license from the OLCC is to submit your application along with appropriate fees online or in person at their local office. Once your application has been approved you will be required to take an Alcohol Server Education Course offered by the OLCC before you can receive your liquor license.

Any individual or business selling alcohol in Oregon must have an OLCC Liquor Liability Insurance policy in place in order to be compliant with state law. If a business is found operating without this insurance they could face hefty fines or penalties imposed by the OLCC.

Some common violations that could result in suspension or revocation of an establishments' liquor license include providing alcohol to minors, failure to maintain records accurately, allowing intoxicated persons on premises, not having adequate staff trained on alcohol awareness rules/laws, selling alcoholic beverages after hours or other illegal activities related to selling alcohol within Oregon.

The Temporary Event Permit allows qualified organizations or individuals (applicant) holding special events off licensed premises (such as festivals) where free samples of malt beverage products may be served from licensed vendors with permission from the Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC). A Temporary Event Permit must be obtained prior to any event involving service/sale of beer for on-premises consumption at any special event held off-premises.
