What does OHAC mean in HEALTHCARE

The Oral Health Advisory Committee (OHAC) is a team of healthcare professionals, including dentists and certified dental hygienists, who provide advice and recommendations on best practices in oral health care to both providers and consumers. OHAC supports excellence in oral health by promoting the highest quality of preventive, restorative, and rehabilitative services to the public.

The members of the OHAC are comprised of professional dentists, certified dental hygienists, community and patient advocates who have an interest in improving access to quality oral health care for all individuals. Together they work to identify policy solutions that reflect their collective professional experiences and expertise.

The OHAC works with partners across the state to develop strategies addressing access to care disparities experienced by underserved populations. Further, the committee provides guidance on how to effectively implement those policies at a local level. Additionally, it reviews data from multiple sources including disease trends; utilization patterns; financial analysis; consumer issues; and other relevant information important in making informed decisions about oral health care within Oregon.

The OHAC typically meets quarterly at locations determined by committee members with accommodation for stakeholders input encouraged when appropriate. All meetings are held publicly, except when personnel matters or legislative action is discussed where sharing such information may be required or needed prior consent from those involved.

The selection process for membership includes appointments made by elected officials representing various parts of Oregon's population and organizations committed to improving oral health access for all citizens. Interested individuals should contact their local representative or other public office holder who can recommend them for review as an applicant for a position on the committee.

Yes! As an active member of the OHAC, you have an opportunity to promote excellence in oral health while contributing your experience and expertise towards making informed decisions about providing quality care within Oregon’s State borders. Also working together with dedicated professionals like yourself allows us to collaborate our knowledge towards advocating for better access during uncertain times when resources may be scarce or safety measures restrictive.

No additional training is required beyond having knowledge related to your respective field such as being up-to-date with current advances in your profession or understanding recent laws related to your line of work. It’s also helpful if you have experience working with patients/clients from diverse backgrounds too so that we’re better able to understand their needs.

No there isn’t any financial gain associated with being a part of this advisory group but you do receive meaningful recognition and appreciation from multiple sources throughout Oregon that are working towards creating equitable solutions around access barriers experienced by many communities.

Generally speaking, we expect each meeting to last no longer than 3 hours unless there is additional time allocated since every agenda item will require further deliberation which usually happens if we need clarification on specific topics or more time devoted towards topics requiring more detailed discussion among members.
