Overhead Equipment Power (OEP) is a method used by railroads to power their trains. It is a type of rail-based energy supply that eliminates the need for fuel storage onboard and reduces emissions and noise from the train.

It is popular in Europe, China, India and Australia but it has had lower uptake in North America due to greater restrictions on electrification projects in that region. OEP can be more expensive than diesel powered systems initially because of high infrastructure costs required for installation but over time could be cheaper due to reduced operating costs associated with fuel storage and transportation needs being eliminated or minimized. Additionally long term maintenance costs are also lower as electric systems tend not to require as much maintenance as traditional diesel powered systems over their lifespan.
